Nov 16, 2018 (China Knowledge) - Meituan Dianping, China Logistics and Purchasing Federation and Log Research Institute have jointly issued the "2018 China's instant delivery industry development report" in Beijing. The general manager of Meituan takeaway delivery division, Wei wei, during the launch ceremony of the report, informed that the company's market share has increased from 31.7% in 2015 to 59.1% as of 31 March, 2018, and its daily orders have exceeded 21 million.

Wei wei informed that in the development of retail industry, the distribution of merchant is always "passive"; the rise of instant delivery has brought retail distribution into the "active" stage of personal delivery. Point-to-point delivery, reaching within 45 minutes or even 30 minutes, and delivery by the rider to users within a radius of 5 km all give a boost to the retail business. While unplanned, merchants are able to stock up front, save costs and meet users' urgent needs by relying on the big data of instant delivery and the electronic model of orders.

In order to improve the professional skills of riders, Meituan and Tsinghua university have jointly launched the ‘new urban youth’ program. It provides assistance and learning development platform for urban service workers or the delivery riders.

At present, the main service area of instant delivery includes takeout, B2C retail, commercial convenience, express delivery and C2C distribution demand. The report is the first industry report of its kind which focuses at the emerging instant delivery market of China. It analyzes the technical instant delivery system of Meituan, and many other companies, and indicates that the instant delivery industry is gradually completing capitalization and entering maturity.
