Oppo, Ericsson partners in 5G innovation lab in Shenzhen
Nov 06, 2019 (China Knowledge) - Chinese mobile giant Oppo Mobile Telecommunications has announced a joint partnership with Swedish mobile and telecommunications company Ericsson to set up a 5G wireless network innovation lab in Shenzhen, China.
Under the partnership, the companies will pool their 5G resources and carry out joint research and development in 5G network and devices. Both companies will also enhance collaboration in software development, network architecture design and optimization of mobile products and services, in the hope to accelerate the rolling out of 5G products and services across the world.
Luca Orsini, vice president and head of networks for North East Asia at Ericsson, said the partnership is of highly strategic importance for both Ericsson and Oppo, and will contribute to the diversity of the 5G ecosystem and benefit from the agility of both companies to bring new use cases and customer value to the market.
Andy Wu, president of software engineering at Oppo, also believes the partnership will benefit both Ericsson and Oppo, as well as provide better 5G products and experiences for consumers around the world.
This joint partnership comes after the two mobile companies inked an international patent licensing agreement in February, which transferred over 500 patents from Ericsson to Oppo. In addition, the companies have also been collaborating on a series of 5G network performance tests using Ericsson’s 5G network infrastructure and Oppo’s 5G devices, together with local partners in China, Sweden and Germany.
