China's Stock Mkts Closed Updates: SSE Index +0.3%, SZSE Index +0.3%, HSI +1.8%, total trading amount to USD 218 bln
Jul 22, 2021 (China Knowledge) - Shanghai Composite Index closed at 3,574.73, up 0.34%, Shenzhen Component Index finished at 15,262.19, up 0.33%, the Hang Seng Index closed at 27,723.84, up 1.83%. The trading volume for three exchanges recorded USD 217.9 bln, up 5.62% from the previous trading day.
Iron & Steel was today's top performing sector, seeing the highest rise of 5.37%, follows by Non-Ferrous Metal and Chemicals, gaining 2.58% and 1.80%, respectively. Health Care sector saw the biggest drop of 2.70%, followed by food & beverage (-1.41%) and leisure service (-0.91%).
Of the 4,398 stocks on Mainland China, there were 2,279 (52%) gainers, 1,953 (44%) losers, and 158 (4%) remained unchanged.
A total of 75 stocks hit the max limit up while 13 touched the fall limit. The CSRC set maximum 10% rise and 10% fall of a stock in a single day for all A-shares except those on the STAR Market and ChiNext board which are allowed a 20% rise or fall in a single day. These prevent stocks from being traded for the rest of the day once hitting the rise or fall limit to curb extreme volatilities in either direction.
