Zhongjin Petrochemical achieves breakthrough in applications of disproportionation catalyst for industrial use

Mar 20, 2023 (China Knowledge) - Zhongjin Petrochemical, a subsidiary of Rongsheng Petrochemical (002493), has achieved breakthrough in developing disproportionation catalyst for industrial use. The successful application of this new disproportionation catalyst took place this month at Zhejiang Petroleum & Chemical’s (ZPC), another subsidiary of Rongsheng Petrochemical, production facility with 3.5 million T/A capacity.

Therefore, Zhongjin Petrochemical’s achievement demonstrates the company's research and innovation capabilities of catalysts. The tested catalyst has been used for over 60 days, with all performance indicators operating normally and product quality meeting standards.

With such unique catalytic materials and modified processes, it possesses high catalytic activity for the reactions of indene/methylethylbenzene, with conversion rates of 93% and 97%, respectively. Additionally, the byproduct content of ethylbenzene is less than 0.20%.

To ensure the success of the catalyst's first industrial application, Zhongjin Petrochemical and ZPC's technical teams have conducted numerous trials. To counter the unknown reaction activity of the new catalyst, their process technicians meticulously issued specific operating instructions during the application process, prepared emergency plans, and continuously analyzing and summarizing production data, activity comparisons, hydrogen consumption, and C8A selectivity, among other parameters.

Rongsheng Petrochemical has an aromatic hydrocarbon production capacity of 13.8 million T/A, and currently the world’s largest supplier of aromatics. The independent development of disproportionation catalyst by Rongsheng is of great significance in breaking away from foreign technology constraints, improve its production facility’s technological levels, increase raw material conversion efficiency, reduce consumption and production costs, and achieve large-scale and efficient green aromatics production.
