Baidu partners Changsha to build smart city with its autonomous taxi and bus fleet

Nov 01, 2018 (China Knowledge) - Baidu Inc. <BIDU:NASDAQ> has signed a partnership agreement with the Changsha municipal government to develop the city’s transport infrastructure. The company will be rolling out its self-driving taxi and bus services there.

Baidu will deploy autonomous taxi in the partnership, with the fleet to reach 100 vehicles by 2019. The company will use its open-source Apollo platform to drive hardware and software support for the autonomous vehicles.

Apollo is a platform introduced by Baidu to provide software for partners to develop their own autonomous driving systems through on-vehicles and hardware platforms. Baidu is able to drive development through the ability to provide HD map service, deep learning algorithm and being the only open autonomous driving simulation engine platform in the world.

The company will launch its driverless bus in industrial area in the city. Baidu will also use its Apollo platform to develop a system to map the route of Apollo bus.
