Huawei secured more than 50 commercial contracts globally for 5G networks

Sep 04, 2019 (China Knowledge) - Yesterday, Huawei held the Huawei Asia-Pacific Innovation Day in Chengdu. At the conference, Huawei Technologies announced that it has signed more than 50 commercials contract for 5G networks worldwide and has delivered about 200,000 5G base stations (Massive MIMO AUU).

Among the 50 contracts, twenty-eight deals were in Europe, eleven in the Middle East, six in the Asia-Pacific region, four in the Americas and one in Africa, said Xu Wenwei, director of Huawei's Institute of Strategic Research. Also, Huawei has successively established Kunpeng R&D center and facility in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Chengdu and other Chinese cities, and it plans to invest RMB 3 bln in developing Kunpeng microchip supply chain within five years.

The Asia-Pacific region is leading the world in 5G deployment. South Korea, the world’s first country to launch 5G networks has gained more than 2 million 5G users since it issued 5G phone numbers in early April. China has built 5G large-scale trial commercial networks, with major operators setting up networks in large cities, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Chengdu.

Globally, 35 operators in 20 countries have released 5G, and 33 countries have allocated 5G spectrum. “The arrival of 5G technology is just in time. The advancement of 5G has given birth to rich applications and could change the world with communication technology advancement. And at the same time, the fusion application of 5G, AI, IoT, and cloud is changing people’s lifestyle and it will make the world a better place", Xu said.
